Red Dead Redemption
Rockstar have really set the standard for future cowboy games here. They've obviously been watching their spagetti westerns. This game is so good in pretty much every aspect.
I going to review each aspect of the game pointing out the good points and the bad points
First I'll start with Gameplay
Gameplay
There's plently to do, around a what can seem like an endless map, from bounty hunting to playing poker to herding cattle to treasure hunting. Red Dead Redemption has everything you'd expect a cowboy movie to have and more. The main story has about 60 missions and note that Rockstar have done their on making their missions less repititive like in GTA IV but at times they can become slightly tedious. There is also the 19 side missions which include a variety of activitys to carry out for strangers, on top of that there is a lot of bounty hunter missions and 10 levels to train in each hunter, sharpshooter, survivalist and treasure hunter. Red Dead Redemption has a a unique honour system where you gain honour for good deeds (such as capturing criminals instead of killing them or help strangers) and lose honour for bad deeds (such as killing innocents or robbing safes). On top of the honour meter there is also a fame one, where doing various actions good or bad will gain you fame and cause NPC's to acknowledge you. The game is in 3rd person and features a similar combat system to GTA IV with the abiltiy to take cover and blindfire. There is also the option to free roam where you can do as you please, the sky is the limit. For Gameplay I give the game
8/10
Storyline
The storyline in my opinion is one of the best things about this game. The protagonist is ex-outlaw John Marston who is forced by government agents to hunt down his old gang members who in the past left him to die. John must do this adventure filled task and in order to have his family realeased from a corrupt goverment. . The game actually reminds me of the movie The Dark Knight in the way that just when you think the story is coming to an end it turns out there is still a lot left to unravel. This game is screaming out for, not a sequel, but a prequel. For a truly gripping Storyline I give the game
10/10
Graphics
Excellent Graphics that really bring out a western atmosphere. Its great making you're way up a large mountain or canyon and looking out on a spectacular view or the great western plains of America or the sandy terrain of Mexico. I also have the credit the various different landscapes of the game which include, forests, snowy mountains, deserts and canyons. There are also a few graphical glithces in the game but nothing to serious. For graphics I give a much deserved
8.5/10
Soundtrack
Rockstar have really hit the right note here. The music relates well to whatever your doing in the game to put it simply. I particularly enjoy when a sad cowboy ballad comes on in cornerstone moments in the game. One negativety of the music is game has no where near the number of songs to match the playlists of the GTA series. For a beautiful but small sountrack I give the Game an
8/10
Multiplayer
It would be unfair for me to judge the multiplayer to harshly because I have had very little experience of it. One experience was some guy who was about 50 levels higher than me shooting me like there was no tomorrow. Despite this bad experience its seems like there is plenty more hours to spend online once you're bored of the single player which probably won't happen soon. There also seems to be people having connection problems but hopefully this will be fixed. For a decent online that looks like Rockstar has put some effort in I give a
8/10
Overall this is one of my all time favourite games and I can guarantee at the present time it will be the best cowboy game around. Saying that it will take some beating. So I recommend that you go out and buy this game. How can you resist getting on your horse and galloping off into the Western sunset. A true Western Experience, John Wayne eat your heart out.
Overall I give the game a 9/10
